ASX, BIOTECHS UP:
PRANA UP 8%, CELLESTIS DOWN 6%

THE MARKET
The Australian stock market closed up 0.74 percent on Friday September 29, 2006, with the All Ordinaries climbing 37.5 points to 5,113.0 points. Eighteen of the Biotech Daily Top 40 stocks were up, eight stocks fell, 12 traded unchanged and two were untraded. Eleven of the Top 20 rose and six fell, while seven of the Second 20 rose and two fell.
Prana was best, up 3.5 cents or 8.43 percent to 45 cents on low volumes followed by Starpharma and Proteome both up 6.67 percent to 48 and 32 cents respectively. Acrux climbed 5.38 percent; Progen climbed 5.38 percent and Phosphagenics closed up 4.23 percent. Cygenics, Optiscan and Pharmaxis were up more than three percent; Chemgenex, Evogenix and Peplin were up more than two percent; with Alchemia, Biota, Clinical Cell, Psivida, Tissue Therapies and Ventracor up more than one percent.
Cellestis led the few falls, down 18 cents or 6.32 percent to $2.67 followed by Biosignal down one cent or 5.26 percent to 18 cents. Phylogica and Sirtex fell more than two percent; with Novogen and Peptech down more than one percent.
