NEUREN
Neuren has completed recruitment and dosing of 355 patients in its phase III trial of lead product Glypromate to reduce brain impairment after major heart surgery.
In June Neuren announced efficacy could be established with 320 patients, not 606 as first planned (see Biotech Daily; June 30, 2008).
Neuren co-chief executive officer Larry Glass said completion of recruitment was “an exciting milestone”.
“It brings our lead drug another step closer to being commercially available and was achieved early and within our budget,” Mr Glass said.
“The early trial data suggest that Glypromate has an excellent safety profile,” he said.
“We are now collating the study data and look forward to the release of provisional efficacy results before the end of the year,” Mr Glass said.
“The compound has the potential to significantly improve the quality of life for the large number of people who suffer cognitive impairment after cardiac bypass surgery,” he said.
“Achievement of recruitment ahead of schedule demonstrates how effective and efficient the team is at Neuren and our total focus on getting our promising treatments for central nervous system disorders and brain injury to market as soon as possible,” Mr Glass said.
Neuren said one-third of patients suffer cognitive impairment three months after surgery and there was currently no approved treatment available to prevent this.
Neuren was up half a cent or 5.56 percent to 9.5 cents.
